'Gauteng is the most hotly contested province'

With less than a week left before 8 May, it is the final stretch that political parties have to garner support for the elections.

48 political parties will contest this year's elections. The newly launched 24-hour news channel, Newzroom Afrika's lead anchor Cathy Mohlahlana joins 702's Bongani Bingwa.

We are in a situation where many voters are disillusioned by what politicians are saying, but when you look at those May Day celebrations, we saw that there is a genuine understanding from political parties that now is the time to try and convince the millions of undecided voters.

Different polls showing the African National Congress (ANC) is possibly losing ground in the elections illustrate how rife factionalism within the ruling party is, she adds.

What is becoming more evident as we get to 8 May, is that there isn't a centre that is holding and pulling things together within the ANC.
