Small Business Focus: Big Deals

“As a small business, you are going along, things are going well and you do some marketing. Marketing is like casting a whole lot of lines into the water, waiting for the big fish. When that big fish bites, do you take that deal?”

Impulse tells you to leap at the opportunity of a big deal but that deal may be the nemesis of your business, explains Pavlo Phitidis, our resident Small Business expert and the Director of Aurik Business Incubator.

This week, Pavlo discusses assessing the “big deal” opportunity and the do’s and don’ts of what action to take after securing a deal.

“If I see companies that I respect walking away from a deal perhaps that means that it’s a deal that can’t make you money”

Pavlo’s two rules on deal-making:

- Ask what can go wrong before you worry about what could go right

- Once you have secured a deal, use it as a platform to build for the next one; do not rest on your laurels.
