Good day.
I’ve created the below listed issues on the joburg.org.za website. I doubt that the council makes use of this site anymore as issues are sometimes closed or deleted without being resolved. Entering the meter readings also feels like a wasted effort when the council just applies their "guestimates" every month. I hope you can assist in closing these issues:
IR0127213 2010-01-26 - Open Trench across road.
IR0127212 2010-01-26 - Potholes, poor raod surface.
IR0127211 2010-01-26 - Potholes.
IR0127210 2010-01-26 - blocked kerbside drain.
IR0127209 2010-01-26 - blocked kerbside drain.

First Road Farmall down to the river is in such a bad state that us residents are unable to use this road without damaging our cars- and we have no choice but to use this road. We have correspondence with JRA dating back to 2006 begging them to fix this road properly as grading it 4 times a year does nothing- it needs storm water drains because of its slope when it rains all the water runs down this road to the Jukskei river and it destroys the road and washes away any grading. We have been promised many times that JRA will fix this road, but they never do. I can supply all correspondence and photos if you would like. Now with all the rain we have experienced, the bridge that goes over the jukskei on Riverbend road is almost washed away and potholes on this road- I dont even know where to begin with the amount.
I know we are a small pound in the ocean with our residential road and JRA with all this rain have major roads to fix, but we have been BEGGING for almost 4 years about our road and I would love for someone for JRA to drive their car on our residential road where we pay taxes for it to be usable, and see how they feel when they hit every pothole, donga and trench and rock and brick- then have to replace their sump or tyre- THEN they will finally do something about this PUBLIC road.
Thanks 702!

After repeated requests to JRA, ( First Road , cnr Riverside & Main in Farmall) to grade down towards the river was never graded in December 2009 when all the other roads were graded. The road deteriorated to such an extent that not one of the residents of my property had a choice but to use our vehicles on this road, despite the fact that it was COMPLETELY washed away. Our of sheer desperation, one of the residents tried to pass through and here vehicle was stuck. She called us to assist and all the residents living on the property that uses this road, went to assist. After hours of struggling, the vehicle could pass. A tenant was injured when he fell into the ditch and sprained his ankle. Many of our vehicles have been damaged in trying to get in and out of the property and yet JRA have not even responded after promising to fix the road. We have spoken to Hendrik van Tonder, Jimmy Oliver, Rhulane Ngobeni and requested a site visit. We have requested them to call us and they have blatantly ignored all the correspondence and requests. We had no formal response after submitting our requests in writing to Randburg Depot. We have been asking for this road to be repaired since 2006. I have all the correspondence dating back till then where all types of promises were made. We have been told that imported materials will repair our road. On Saturday all my tenants and I, spent more than two hours, physically picking up rocks and stones to fill the road in an attempt to be able to use this road. We asked Randburg Depot earlier in the week to assist us in getting a compactor so that we could at least do something but they failed to even respond in writing or help us. We are damaging our vehicles and we are desperate.
I am extremely disappointed in the manner in which this problem is being address ed. Since 2006 we have been waiting for something to happen. It’s unacceptable and it is appalling to expect residents to use a road that is NOT in a condition for cars to pass through. I cannot accept an excuse where I am told that equipment is broken. We pay our services and expect the roads to be in a condition that we may use them. This is a public road!
For three weeks in a row Pikitup are not collecting our refuse because they cannot get their truck down our road! No deliveries or collections can be made to our property by most vehicles and we cannot have visitors as the road is in such a state!
The pictures below depict what we have to call a public road! We have basic needs!
We NEED to get to work, without a road that is impossible!
We NEED to buy food, without a road that is impossible!
We NEED our refuse to be removed, without a road that is impossible!
We NEED a road which has a storm water drainage system which won’t get washed away every time it rains!
Seeing that we are tax payers, we ask for this road because it’s a necessity in our lives!

Dear 702,
I am a resident at 114 First Road, Farmall, Randburg, Gauteng.
This might sound strange, but I wish from the bottom of my heart that I could complain about
a blocked storm water drain, unsafe pavements or even a pot hole! But, it is a well known fact that one needs a public road to have the joys of a blocked storm water drain, unsafe pavements or even a pot hole. Our public road has no storm water drainage, no pavement and looks more like an extreme 4x4 testing facility than a public road. . .The road gets so bad that it is completely impassable by truck. . .what would happen if there is a fire, or someone needs to get to the hospital ASAP, but they can’t because there is no public road to do so?!
I can’t even complain about the “Bridge in Riverbend Road” which is completely destroyed and washed away because I can’t get there!
I am a normal South-African tax paying citizen, and these are my needs . . .
I need a road!! And a whole lot of other residents need that bridge to be fixed!!
PLEASE HELP US!

Re: Street Address: Corner of 5th Avenue Linden and Salerno Road, Emma Park Koppie, Linden.
I am writing to ask your help to communicate with Jhb City Parks on cleaning up and protecting this natural parkland and heritage site. I have on numerous occassions reported to City Parks about the vagrants sleeping here, there are no toilet facilities so they are defacating in the park. There have been numerous reports of drug trafficking, littering, cutting down of the trees, starting fires and flashing. This site is a huge security risk to the residents of the surrounding suburbs. The park/ hertitage site stretches from 5th Avenue right down past the Abrahm Kriel Childrens Home and levels out onto what could be a beautiful community park area opposite Risidale Primary School. However, the vagrants that have moved into this area of the park are living on the banks of the stream that runs through the property, making it unsafe and littered with rubbish.
Jhb City Parks have acknowledged receipt of my complaints and assured me that they will look into this as a matter of urgency however that was in September 2009,4 months later and nothing has changed. This greenspace has real environmental value: habitat for native plants animals and birds, reduction of runoff to storm sewers, improvement of air quality, etc.
Please help
Regards
Gabby
Protecting this heritage site and park area fits in with many of Johannesburg’s priorites: environmental stewardship, healthy living, community engagement, and city revitalization. It also fits in with the appreciation of natural beauty and outdoor recreation that is part of our identity, and that attracts visitors and professionals to our city.

Can I please ask for your intervention and help into this matter, despite repeated calls made via the service call centre being 011 375 5555 with no positive results. This line just rings and nobody answers.I have also made a view calls to the local offices responsible for the street light repairs in Lenasia 011 213 3026/3039 trying to get hold of the supervisor Mr.Peter Abrams and his supervisor Mr Sipho Gumede ,they are forever not available or in meetings. The Street Lights are not working in ext 5 Ennerdale George and Olivien Streets and surrounding areas since before Christmas last year (December 2009).This is a hot spot for mischief makers because it is pitch black around this area at night. The community is being angered by this non response of these public servants.Must people first resort to demonstrations, take to the streets and violence before these problems are attended too?The community of Ennerdale are getting frustrated, sick and tired.
The grass in the vicinity on the Extension 1 area(Olympus Street) where the stadium is,is overgrown and was last cut before Christmas last year, this poses a safety hazard especially on the corner of Olympus and James street. There is a stop street and the grass is obscuring the view of drivers wanting to turn right into James street to go out of Ennerdale.( This is also dangerous at night when you drive up the driveway to open your garage gate and find yourself being hi-jacked)
I am not sure where our Councillor Nyambe for this ward G is (not very visible) ,I am not sure if these people drive around the area and to observe these things that need attention,if not perhaps we need to create the awareness with them.I challenge them to come and drive around this area at night to see for themselves.

Hi Guys,
I reported the potholes along Campbell Road and Inchange Avenue in Craigavon, Fourways (REF NO. 285744). I sent the email on the 8th March 2010 and received my Ref No on the same day. Unfortunately nothing has been done as yet. These holes are getting bigger by the day and because it’s a single lane in both ways we now have to drive onto oncoming traffic to avoid the holes as we cannot drive over them due to the severity of the holes.
Please address this as soon as possible because pretty soon there will be no road there and there will be no way out of Craigavon.

Over the past year I have sent numerous e-mails to the Parks Department (ref No0543/12 )and to the Randburg Police but this area continues to be a problem.
1. The park fence either needs to be removed or painted and maintained.
2. The grass in the park is never properly cut especially around the trees and under the fence.
3. The grass on the pavement is like a jungle.
4. When the grass is cut it is all left to collect on the side of the road – the grass is now growing in the road.
5. There are blocks of concrete and other rubble that is never removed from the pavement.
6. The manhole cover (on the pavement) for the sewerage was broken and has been replaced but with an ill fitting cover.
7. Despite the sign in the park saying “no alcohol” the blue bakkie that has been there for years continues to sell illegal alcohol to the people in the park and also causes a traffic hazard by parking in the road on a busy corner. The Randburg Police have been informed of this on a number of occasions and have the registration number BLZ660 GP.
8. The Dundee road street sign needs repairing or replacing
It would be appreciated if this situation could be attended to.

Ralph and Carol Young

Hi
The streetlight outside my house was struck by lightning in October last year, and I reported it immediately on the city of joburg’s website.
In January, this "trouble ticket" showed a status of "Resolved" but the streetlight had not received any attention and was still out. I reactivated the ticket and am still waiting. I have logged 2 other tickets querying why this repair is not happening.

I bought a new property in December. Outside my property near my water meter there is water seeping through the paving. I logged a call with the Germiston Municipality and till today no one has come out. A team came out to clean up the water meter and create a trench so the water channels away from the water meter, they also said that they would log a call for the leak, since it was not their department. Almost four months worth of water wastage that could have run a family for those four months!!

Most of Parkview has either no street signs, or they are turned around. The painted kerb signage is also mostly worn out, and needs repainting. I have a B & B, and guests have mentioned that I am really hard to find,so I tested this from the turn off on Jan Smuts Ave into Westcliff Dr. Then right into Wicklow and downhill to the golf course. I really could hardly read a single sign.

Hi John I took this on 3 years ago, even sent photos to JRA. They cleaned a small patch and nothing since! Called on the 3 March 2010 and again today - 12 March. The Call centre tried to put me through to JRA but the phone just rang and then died. Please help! It looks appalling and prevents any rain water from being channeled into the drains - hence pot holes etc! Hopefully you have more influence than me - just a Parkview resident who drives up and down Westcliffe Drive daily...

At the ENTRANCE to the TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT in MARLBOROUGH, Sandton there is the hugest pothole I have had the misfortune to hit in the last while. I mean really, the cars have to drive on the opposite side of the road and slowly slowly proceed forward. Surely the authorities can fix, at the very least, the huge pothole at the entrance to where numerous fines are paid (which I thought was utilized for that purpose anyway) to at least let people go there comfortably to part with their hard earned cash!

Hi John,
We have a guesthouse very close to loftus stadium(Kirkness Guesthouse) which I help to manage and obviously we are very busy during this period.
The Apies river runs at the bottom of the road (Bond Street) and I walk often over the pedestrian bridge to the next road where we live.
All along the river there are people who live there and bathe in the river. I would not really object to this as my heart goes out to them except for the fact that the edge of the river is filthy with bottles and rubbish.More than this it has become a serious crime spot. The houses around are frequently being broken into by petty criminals and more than this the other morning at about 9 am I was crossing the footbridge and greeted a man and a _+ 16 year old boy on the bridge as I walked past. I walked for about 10m then heard steps and suddenly my Knapsack was grabbed and this man started stabbing at me with what might have been a broken bottle or a knife. I always carry with me a large bunch of keys on a strap and started (with my left hand) to hit out with it toward the face of the older man. I seemed to be losing the battle when an approaching car from the next road started hooting and the muggers started to run away. My wits then caught up with me and for a short distance started running after them shouting and waving my bunch of keys. I thought it might be stupid to run further into the undergrowth along the river and turned back. The hooting car had gone but when I walked further to the main bridge at the corner of Jorrison and tom jenkins I found that a student on a scooter and a man In a car had spotted the attackers under the bridge and were keeping an eye out. I was visibly shaken but not very hurt and was able to phone sunnyside Police station which is only a few blocks away and said someone had attempted to stab me and was now under the bridge in a very accesible location and could they please send a car. The response was not very enthusiastic and he put down the phone before asking for my name or number.A police car did pass by shortly afterwards and we waved it down but they were looking for an accident involving a diplomat and would not get out or radio for assistance.I Phoned again and a young lady answered who did take my name and number but nobody came or phoned me back at all. Myself and the man who helped me went on a search for the attackers who seemed to have disappeared ( there are large storm water drains and tunnels all along the spruit so there are countless places to hide.) We did not see them and I have let the matter rest.
The one tunnel goes to Magnolia dell where last year we had a smash and grab and I have heard that a lot of teenagers on their way to school (Boys high, Meisies Hoer and seuns Hoer not to mention students on their way to pretoria university which are right ther have been accosted and cell phones and other stuff stolen.
The Clydesdale Resident association has been trying to work with the police for years now and seriously nothing of significance has been done to either clean up the rubbish or the people who make it.
THIS IS A DISASTER Waiting to happen for the world cup as Bond street is a major walkway to the main gates of the stadium and recently millions have been spent to pave and upgrade the pavement but nothing has been done to clean up the Apies River.

I want to bring to your attention the shocking state of the roads in Blairgowrie, Randburg.
Two streets in particular, namely Blairgowrie Drive and Melia Rd are in a dire state.
All the roads in Blairgowire need to be re-tarred. I am sure that they were last tarred in the 1960’s.
The roads are cracked with potholes galore. None of the roads have white lines painted in the middle. Is this legal? One can see the remnants of painted lines on a few roads, but one has to look hard to see them as they are so faint.
But the roads will have to be re-tarred first because they are pale grey in colour, and, if white lines are painted on such a pale surface, they will not show up.
I see that other suburbs, notably those in Sandton, have roads that are neat and well-maintained.
I would appreciate it if you could urgently look into this matter.

Hi,
The grass along the R21 highway from the O.R Tambo Airport to Bruma has not been cut for over a year now. When we contacted Erkuhuleni to report the problem, they say it is the JRA that needs to do it, and the JRA says it is Ekurhuleni. It’s disgusting for visitors to arrive her, and the first thing they notice is grass 2 meters high along the highways.

I travel on the R24 motorway between OR Tambo International and Edenvale almost daily. I was wondering if the Ekurhuleni metropolitan municipality or the World Cup LOC will be cleaning up the R24 motorway anytime soon? The R24 motorway will be the first glimpse of South Africa foreign visitors will see when travelling from the airport to Johannesburg/Sandton. What a bad 1st impression… The grass embankments and middle island has grass almost a metre high and the embankments are strewn with litter!! Other than a few MTN billboards that advertise MTN’s FIFA sponsorship, there are no other World Cup billboards or any banners/signage welcoming all the foreign visitors. Foreign visitors will be arriving at a world class airport, travelling to 5 star hotels in Sandton on an unkempt motorway passing an industrial area with no promotion of the World Cup on this important motorway. What a wasted opportunity to impress and welcome a new visitor to our country!

My query is still with the adjustments department who moved offices and couldn’t get themselves together. It is now may 2010.7 months later. Apparently there is a backlog since the beginning of 2009.

On the 10/3/2010 I reported the street lights on Northfield Ave, Glenhazel between Long Ave and Daleview Rd out of order. Ref number provided by the Alex depot was 21044583647.
I re reported this on 9/4/2010 and spoke to Selby, who relogged the complaint with a new ref number 2105226942. On the 29/4/10 I was told by Makwe that this would be made a priority. To date "hello darkness my old friend" Please help.

Took the train to Loftus on Friday, everything was 100%, best idea ever, the Metro Police, SAP volunteers, were amazing, friendly, efficient, dont have enough praise, but was totally disgusted when I saw the amount of litter that is on the banks of the track once we pulled out of Park Station, voli but totally disgusted at the amount of litter that was visiable on the banks of the track when leaving Park station absolutely disgusting, shocking, so embarrased to think that a tourist would see such filth.
The trip was totally over shadowed by this mess.
Please something must be done, dont know people using this service can accept this, make one think.

The SA embassy has refused to issue tickets saying the customer require a booking confirmation from FIFA called FIFA and a booking confirmation only applies when booking is done on like. Can you please assist us we dont seem to be able to get through all the phones on the government website for the SA embassy in Nigeria and the email isnt going through. what surprises us is that all official have yahoo, or gamil email no official email. we have spent alot and may end up loosing all money paid since each ticket was R 2100 per person on worldcup tickets only.

Registered Patent and Trade mark called Plak-Art. The Product is a rollup placard displaying the countries flag on one side and the other side can be used to display/write your personal messages. These messages can be erased and replaced with a new message each time....product similiar to a whiteboard. Can be used inside your car, at home, sports events and schools.
I have produced my plak-arts and I am selling it to people I know. I am looking for a company that is willing to check out this idea. The product is fairly simple to produce and can be used beyond 2010.

At the rear of my offices in Richmond, Johannesburg, next to the Country Club Johannesburg on the Auckland Park border, there is a service lane between Napier Road, and Park Road. Water and what appears to be sewage has been pouring out of this for several days, and constitutes a severe health risk to all. We have contacted all the Municipal and Govt Departments to no avail.

Hi! John 2 ideas, 1.We continue with football friday & introduce Rugby Saturday and Cricket Sunday all for life in SA. 2. I have seen how friendly people become when they see a name tag on you, even customers become less irrate when they know who they are talking to. I suggest we start wearing name tags for peace and unity. I feel people won’t stand in queues as strangers, we can be one big family. We will greet each other by name in queues and every were we meet each other.

Fishershill?Solheom has a pretty ridge with a gorgeous view of the city. Main rd is also a main route for pedestrians going to germiston station. there are no dustbins, except on an island in the middle of a double thoroughfare and litter abounds, no matter how frequently residents pick up. The fence around the ridge is broken, and the viewing spot is filthy. i have written to the da in numerous formats and offered to mobilize the neighbourhood to help, as well as report this to ekhuruleni since 2007, to no avail. HELP!
