He says he got swayed into joined the ANC because of his parents. He also spoke about the years he spent on Robben Island as a political prisoner, along with the former South African President, Nelson Mandela. He says he learned a lot about politics in prison. Mr. Kathrada said the greatest achievement by the ANC is gaining the dignity of the people of South Africa post the 1994 elections, which is something the current leadership needs to regain. 09 January 2012 Essop Pahad, spoke about the events of Thabo Mbeki's exit from his position as President of the ANC and South Africa. He also spoke about the changes and challenges that took place while he was still in office. He said more could have been done under the leadership of Thabo Mbeki. Essop continued saying each leader of the ANC faces immense challenges of creating and bringing economical changes in South Africa to transform the economy. He said policies need to be implemented to see the changes happen. 09 January 2012 Malusi Gigaba, spoke about the speech made by Kenneth Kaunda at the Gala Event at the ANC’s centenary celebrations. He says the speech gave support to the ANC. He also spoke about his relationship with Julius Malema, the suspended ANC Youth League, as a former President of the ANC Youth League himself. He said Malema should have used proper and structured ways of communicating his views and issues without causing controversy. Malusi Gigaba said the ANC’s centenary celebrations commemorate the achievements of the party of leading the country out of apartheid and defying the apartheid laws.
