ACCLAIM FOR TALK RADIO 702 STAFFERS

Thursday, 17 May 2007

Bruce Whitfield, host of Talk Radio 702's business show, The World at Six, last week won the prestigious Sanlam Financial Journalist of the Year Award in the broadcast category.

This came just a day after Whitfield scooped a Citadel Words on Money Award in the print category, for features that appeared in FINweek on bank charges, and a runner up award in the electronic category (television) for interviews he hosted on Summit Television.

Meanwhile it was announced on Tuesday that colleague, Mandy Wiener - a 702 Eyewitness News reporter - is one of 26 finalists from 12 countries in the CNN Multichoice African Journalist 2007 Competition.

Winners will be announced in an awards ceremony to be held at the International Convention Centre in Cape Town on 21 July.

"We're absolutely delighted with Bruce's wins and Mandy's progress in the CNN Multichoice African Journalist Competition," said Talk Radio 702 station manager, Pheladi Gwangwa. "We pride ourselves on our exceptional talent at Talk Radio 702 and this once again goes to prove that."

In February this year Talk Radio 702 won Radio Station of the Year in the Southern Africa regional finals of the BBC Africa Radio Awards. The station's morning show host, John Robbie, won in the category Local On-Air Campaign of the Year. The station and Robbie are both in the running for the finals, which take place later this month in Nairobi, Kenya.
