Lead SA calls on the nation to support Bafana Bafana as the team prepare to go head to head with Ghana’s Black Stars on Wednesday 11 August at Soccer City.

Lead SA has declared the day Bafana Day and is encouraging all South Africans to wear their yellow Bafana Bafana supporters gear and unite behind the national soccer squad.

“We want to continue the 2010 ‘gees’ and reignite the national pride we all felt during the World Cup,” said Terry Volkwyn, CEO of Primedia Broadcasting.

Lead SA, a Primedia Broadcasting initiative supported by Independent Newspapers, was launched on Talk Radio 702, 94.7 Highveld Stereo, 94.5 Kfm and 567 CapeTalk, with the aim of mobilising South Africans to look within, and be the change they want to see. A specific area of focus within Lead SA is sport as a way of unifying the nation.

“Stand up and wear your yellow shirt, get to the stadium and support South Africa’s World Cup heroes,” said Volkwyn. “By doing this you’ll be promoting unity, national pride and leading SA.”

In the spirit of the initiative, Moegsien Williams, editor of The Star Newspaper, will be purchasing 100 tickets and handing them out to family, friends and neighbours. With a limited number of tickets available, Williams is challenging other companies and individuals to do the same.

“Wearing your yellow Bafana shirt not only shows that you support Bafana Bafana, but also shows that you support Lead SA,” said Volkwyn. “I encourage all Lead SA supporters to get behind the team and try go to Soccer City.”

Primedia Broadcasting has been a loyal supporter of the national team, hosting the United We Shall Stand Parade that saw over 200 000 Bafana Bafana supporters take to the streets to show their support ahead of the team’s opening match.

“It’s important that we continue the legacy of the World Cup,” said Volkwyn. “Let’s do the right thing and remain loyal supporters of Bafana Bafana.”
