CITY ISSUES IN THE SPOTLIGHT ON 702

Wednesday, 30 January 2008

Johannesburg residents have a new platform to raise concerns about issues affecting their every day lives: a dedicated, one-hour radio feature hosted by Jenny Crwys-Williams on Talk Radio 702.

Called “Wishlist for a Reborn Joburg”, the feature aims to highlight progress in city governance as well as afford city executives the opportunity to inform residents about developments in areas such as transport, environment and security.

Listeners will be able to call into the show and participate in the discussion, raising their concerns and bringing to the council’s attention pressing issues that they feel need to be addressed.

“We’re very excited to be hosting this series of one-hour features as we feel it will really open dialogue between the City of Joburg and residents. It will help to create awareness of City programmes and activities and hopefully ensure effective communication between residents and stakeholders,” said Pheladi Gwangwa, Talk Radio 702 station manager.

The feature will be broadcast every Monday, beginning 18 February 2008, between 14h00 and 15h00 for an eight week period. A different theme will be selected each week – in line with the mayoral priorities and from within the portfolios of the members of the mayoral committee.

“This new feature is in line with Talk Radio 702’s ongoing efforts to effect positive change in our community. Historically, the station has been associated with initiatives and projects aimed at uplifting the community – this is an extension of that commitment,” Gwangwa added.
