BREAKING RECORDS, UNITING THE NATION

Wednesday, 18 August, 2010

Lead SA, in association with Vodacom, will attempt to set a new world record for the most national flags flown in one stadium at the same time when the Springboks go head to head with the New Zealand All Blacks on Saturday 21 August.

Vodacom, 94.7 Highveld Stereo and Talk Radio 702 along with The Star and Pretoria News are encouraging South Africans to attend the upcoming Vodacom Tri-Nations rugby match at the FNB Stadium and wave their South African flags before the match begins and during half-time in order to set a new world record.

“This is a great opportunity to unite the nation once again and proudly fly our beautiful flag,” said Primedia Broadcasting CEO, Terry Volkwyn. “It’s time to stand up for the Springboks and show our support.”

Led by a 20 metre flag, to be released into the crowd before the start of the game, the initiative will be a fitting way to salute the Springboks as they face New Zealand in the first ever international test match to be played in Soweto.

“This is going to be a historic moment in South Africa and we want as many South Africans as possible to get involved and get behind the Bokke,” said Volkwyn.

The Vodacom Fan Cam, a first for South Africa, will not only be used to capture the moment, but fans who attended the game will be able to go online and see themselves in high definition.

The Vodacom Fan Cam will be placed in the centre of the field and it will produce a 360 degree high definition image of the entire stadium and all the people in it. In roughly 4 min, 800 000 images are captured and “stitched” together to create a seamless picture of the stadium and fans. Fans will then be able to step inside the image, find their picture, tag it and share it with family and friends.

To view the Vodacom Fan Cam images visit www.leadsa.co.za from Monday (23 August) at 06h00.

“Just over a month ago we showed the world what a vibrant, amazing nation we are and how we can achieve the impossible, by working together,” said Enzo Scarcella, Vodacom’s managing executive of marketing. “We wanted to continue that momentum, let the world take notice again of the spirit of South Africa and mark the day as another exceptional one in our sporting tapestry.”

Lead SA also encourages all those unable to attend the event to wear their green and gold supporters gear and wave their flag in support of the record breaking initiative.

Lead SA, a 94.7 Highveld Stereo, Pretoria News and The Star initiative, aims to mobilise South Africans to look within, and be the change they want to see. With nation building and respect for the country and its laws as key drivers, Lead SA encourages all South Africans to make a difference, no matter how small, to the lives of those around them. The Lead SA initiative is a long term project that is set to be rolled out over the next few years. A specific area of focus within Lead SA is sport as a way of unifying the nation.
