DISCOVERY 702 WALK THE TALK – ROAD CLOSURES

Thursday, July 5, 2007

With Johannesburg’s biggest and best-loved walking event just around the corner, Discovery and Talk Radio 702 are putting plans in place to ensure that this year’s Walk the Talk runs smoother than ever.

On Sunday, 22 July, 2007, a record 35 500 walkers will converge at Marks Park Sports Club in Judith Road, Emmarentia – the starting and ending point for this year’s Discovery 702 Walk the Talk.

They will get the chance to tone and tighten their calf muscles while taking the scenic route through the suburbs of Emmarentia, Greenside, Parktown, Parkhurst, Parkwood and Parkview.

There will be 42 and 21-kilometre timed events, starting at 06h30 and 07h30 respectively for the more discerned experienced walkers; an 8km walk open for all corporates, clubs, families and friends starting at 09h30; and a 5km fun walk along a safe secure route for children, junior walkers, prams, dogs on leashes, the disabled and pensioners starting at 11h00.

To ensure their safety – as well as the safety of residents – several roads in and around Emmarentia will be closed to traffic on the day by Joburg Metro Police, Joburg Roads Agency and the City of Joburg.

Closures will be effective half an hour before each walk begins. Roads will be reopened immediately after every intersection is clear of walkers, therefore allowing the least possible time of closure.
