Talk Radio 702 and the Dis-Chem Foundation not only warmed the hearts of residents at Thembalami Care Centre, but with the donation of numerous heaters they were able to heat the building as well.
Thembalami cares for the elderly and fragile who have been abandoned by family and friends.
With 145 residents, over 100 rooms and 10 passages to heat, the government grants are simply not enough to cater for the needs of the residents and their heating requirements.
Thembalami Complex Manager, Eleze Raath said, “We do get a little bit of the northern sun but, there’s no doubt that this is a cold building and it’s something the residents feel everyday.”
Having heard about the center, Lynette Saltzman, trustee of the Dis-Chem Foundation was excited to get involved.
“Having a blanket this winter simply won’t be enough,” said Lynette. “Dis-Chem is going to go ahead and donate enough heaters to heat up the building.”
“We can not thank you enough,” said Elise. “We are elated. This is the biggest and best present you could give the people of Thembalami.”
