My garden is about 5m x 10m. It looks bigger but it is actually very small. The first picture is taken from the top of the pump house. We have marrows, pumpkin, mielies, strawberries, tomatoes, beans, spring onions, goose berries, gem squash, cucumber, spinach, potatoes and other odds and sods. Any excess, after the family, is given to whoever happens to be passing my gate.

I was surprised that you had such poor results with aubergine this year, am flush with some weighing up to 1.4 kg. This a picture of 7 varieties of tomato plus an aubergine or two. Cannot believe that we have no idea of the different flavours that can be had.

Here some photos of our veggie garden. And yes, the strange looking tree in the centre is the result of my husband attending a pruning course - apparently we need to "confuse" the prune tree into growing "outwards" not sky high, so all the spindly branches now resemble a really whacky carpet beater!

These are pictures of the start of my vegie garden. I plan to dig six holes the same as the hole in picture no 2 . In Picture 1 I have dug the hole the length of the wall. It is taking longer then I thought as our ground is very rocky. Once the holes are dug I will then mix half of the soil and half compast.

My veggie patch is about 6 square metres in extent. At the moment it has celery, swiss chard, mustard spinach, broad beans, namaqualand daisies (for a splash of colour later in spring), chinese cabbage (not in picture), some peas (still small) and basil (gone to seed by now). There is no need to buy leaf vegetables this winter, there is enough for my partner and I. I do not use any chemicals at all, only compost and mulch. I hope this little garden is an inspiration to others.
