Progress in the drug war

Finally someone stood up and listened to the drug issue in Eldorado Park. Gauteng Premier Nomuvla Mokonyane says they have set up a joint operation centre in Eldorado Park. They’ve made over a hundred arrests since the intervention. Will there be successful prosecutions from these arrests in Eldorado Park? Police have confiscated all sorts of drugs, and closed down lolly lounges. It has to be sustainable from here onwards. Hopefully it’s not just for votes in next year’s election.

Leading by example

What if President Zuma stood up and auctioned off luxury vehicles, flights etc to raise funds for social projects? It would be welcomed by all. Malawian President Joyce Banda just did that to raise cash for cash strapped departments. SA leaders could learn from her. The ostentatious displays of luxury and wealth are unnecessary. We don’t need the blue lights, the expensive travel, and fleet of cars.

Gupta’s close relationship with Zuma is problematic

Davis spoke about how it was no surprise that the President was let off the hook and that the Guptas are unscathed with regards to the findings of the government investigation. He further asserted that the investigation was not independent, we cannot accept the findings without reservation. The issue of name dropping is a big issue problem, and the Gupta’s close relationship with Zuma is worrying as well.

Minister of Basic Education stalls

Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga was supposed to submit the Draft Norms and Standards for School Infrastructure to NGO Equal Education today. David argued that the fact that the minister sent the NGO a letter that the draft legislation is not ready is an indication that the education department is not serious about dealing with the education problem in South Africa.

David reflected on the drug scourge in Eldorado Park and argued that politicians need to go beyond speeches and declarations and that more cops need to be fired.
