This morning the Justice and Correctional Services committee is due to be briefed on an alternative system for the prosecution of international crimes, contained in the International Crimes Bill, setting in motion South Africa’s withdrawal from the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. How feasible is the creation of an alternative system? The Institute for Security Studies wrote a compelling piece on the complexities of setting up the world’s first regional court, the African international crimes court.
