Primedia Broadcasting’s premium news brand, Eyewitness News (EWN), has promised cutting edge coverage of the highly anticipated Oscar Pistorius trial, which gets underway in the High court in Pretoria on Monday (March 3).
At the same time, the public will be able to access live audio of the trial from the Talk Radio 702, 567 CapeTalk, 94.7 Highveld Stereo and 94.5 Kfm Streaming Apps. This service will be available to all iOS and Android devices.
Earlier this week EWN and Multichoice were successful in their court bid to broadcast the trial live on radio, while specific portions of the trial are allowed for broadcast on television. EWN will ensure rolling coverage of the trial, with a team of senior reporters who have been deployed to bring its audience the latest news and expert commentary and analyses from the courtroom and beyond.
Not a moment of the trial will be missed with video content, live streaming via the Oscar web portal, live blogging, live tweets and regular crossings to all Primedia Broadcasting’s radio stations - Talk Radio 702, 567 CapeTalk, 94.7 Highveld Stereo and 94.5Kfm.
Johannesburg’s number one news and talk station, Talk Radio 702 has been hard at work at securing prime expert commentary in anticipation of the trial. Known and respected as the hub of compelling programming, Talk Radio 702 will broadcast on Monday (3 March), all its daytime shows (6am – 6pm) live from outside the Pretoria News offices which is situated near the High Court. The John Robbie Show (6am to 9am) will come live from Pretoria. The Redi Tlhabi show (9am-12pm) and the Midday Report with Stephen Grootes (12pm- 1pm) will also be simulcast across 567 Cape Talk.
Set to break new ground, an Oscar Extra pop-up station will carry a live stream of the audio from the trial and has been set up to run daily between 9am to 4pm. This stream can be accessed via all four of Primedia Broadcasting’s station websites. Positioned as “Gavel to gavel coverage of the Oscar Pistorius trial” this stream will be hosted by presenters, David O’Sullivan and Gushwell Brooks, who both have an extensive and commendable legal background.
O’Sullivan is set to host the morning session and will spend the first hour setting the scene for the day’s proceedings. This will entail coverage by local and international media, highlights from the previous day and live crossings to court proceedings. At noon, there will be a crossing to EWN’s interactive lunchtime show which will be broadcast on DSTV’s channel 199, where audio will be streamed.
Each afternoon, Gushwell Brookes is set to keep listeners well informed by summarising the key court revelations and talking points of the day. Copies of the daily audio streams will also be made available to international listeners across different time zones.
567 CapeTalk will take certain parts of the audio feed live , and will host regular Q&As. They will also refer listeners to the Oscar Extra pop-up station for up to date court proceedings.
Music stations, 94.7 Highveld Stereo and 94.5Kfm will be hosting regular crossings to the EWN team based at the High Court. They will also actively promote the Oscar Extra pop-up station for additional updates.
