FLOODS IN JOBURG - 03/02/2009

Joburg has been lashed by intense and persistent rain for over two weeks. There have been many instances of severe flooding of previously docile spruits, and even instances where roads and bridges have been washed away. These pics were sent in by Dean Webster, Chris Vatalidis and Liesl Dyson.

The South African Weather Service Radar images from Irene during the storm. Note how intense the storm was (yellow and red). Another thing to note is that the storm moved extremely slowly. This results in rain over the same area for a prolonged period.
