At around 2 pm on Friday the 7th August 2009 a horrific tragedy occurred when two adults and 14 month old twins were set alight around 2pm. After fighting for her life, one of the adults died 2 days later. The other adult and the twins died a week later in hospital due to extensive burns. African Information Institute (Pty) Ltd, Anton Smith Attorneys and Trevor Tutu have taken the initiative to set up a trust fund for the remaining family members to help them cope with the tragedy.

The focus of the trust will be to raise funds for funeral expenses and the assistance for any surviving minor siblings. There are six surviving siblings. With the help of the community, NGO’s, Corporates and Government, we feel that this trust will be the start to making a difference to their lives in the future, both mentally and physically.

The trustees, who are donating their time and service to this fund are: Trevor Tutu; Anton Smit [Anton Smit Attorneys] and Hennie Oosthuizen [CEO, African Information Institute (Pty) Ltd]. The Auditors of this trust fund are: L. Bezuidenhout & Co.
