#RememberMandela: one year on
#RememberMandela commemorative events:
--08:00 am - wreath laying ceremony at the Mandela statue, Union Buildings lawns, Pretoria
--09:30 - start of official commemorative ceremony, which will take place at Freedom Park, Pretoria attended by invited guests. The Deputy President of the Republic, the Honourable Cyril Ramaphosa, will give a key note address
--10:00 am - a three-minute moment of silence to be observed. Churches, schools, factories, mosques, etcetera are requested to ring their bells and sirens or use their loud hailers to call the country to attention
Column: Are we living up to Madiba's legacy?
Midday Report Host, Stephen Grootes asks whether Nelson Mandela would be proud of all of us?:
The stature of Nelson Mandela is such that during his presidency, a former SABC journalist wrote a book called When Mandela Goes. It was a bestseller, even though most of its gloomy prognostications have not come to light. The title demonstrated the esteem in which Madiba was held then, the subtext of the title was that without him South Africa would not hold together as a nation in which citizens of vastly different backgrounds, histories and outlooks would hold together. On the first anniversary of the start of our life without him, it is important to examine how we are doing. Bluntly, are we living up to his legacy?

Construction on schedule for Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital:
A specialist children's hospital under construction, the completion of the Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital (NMCH) will be the fifth specialist children's hospital on the African continent.
