STATION: Primedia Broadcasting
REPORT TO: Chief Commercial Officer

TITLE: Direct Sales Manager


  • Minimum Matric, preferably a degree or diploma
  • Computer Literacy e.g. Windows 2000, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Email, Internet
  • Sales training, e.g. negotiating skills, presentation and general selling skills are an added advantage


  • A proven track record, with a minimum of 5 – 7 years Sales experience, preferably in a broadcasting environment, would be a distinct advantage.
  • Excellent understanding of radio and the media industry
  • A management role in a media sales environment
  • A network of marketers, clients and database would be a distinct advantage
  • A proven motivator and positive personality


  • Driver’s License
  • Computer literacy in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, Email
  • Leadership Qualities and excellent people skills
  • Good Negotiation skills
  • Ability to sell business solutions across 94.7, 702, 567 and KFM
  • Understanding of social media and digital innovations and how they can be integrated with radio for multi – platform campaigns
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Ability to work both independently as well as with a team
  • Excellent business written and communication skills
  • Excellent planning & organisational skills
  • Ability to liaise with senior decision makers
  • Must be creative in contributing of ideas to the sales team and sales management team
  • Ability to build trust and customer loyalty to all PMB stations

  • Assist Chief Commercial Officer with any appropriate management responsibility when required
  • Effective communication with sales management – keeping them updated and informed
  • Identify prospects daily and manage the Pipelines for the team to ensure that the team is forecasting and planning correctly to achieve and exceed targets
  • Monthly and quarterly management reporting, including exception reporting
  • Manage incentives, commissions, and bonuses as directed by the CCO and CFO to drive the right behaviour
  • Assist Chief Commercial Officer in managing sales budget
  • Monitor and report on industry dynamics affecting our ability to achieve targets set
  • Build relationships with key clients to increase revenue potential
  • Developing knowledge / understanding of client’s business – fully comprehending the sales process
  • Innovative and proactive – expending time and energy on creative solutions to client’s needs
  • Going the extra mile to win business from competitors
  • Lead the Johannesburg Direct Sales team, setting, implementing and driving strategy and direction for the team, to ensure they meet and exceed targets set
  • Align the team’s strategies and plans to the overall sales strategy
  • Maintain a cohesive team that is inspired to deliver
  • Manage the performance of the Business Unit Head and the Account Executives and to provide feedback on their performance throughout the year
  • Track performance of portfolios (Account Executives and Business Unit Head) and the Direct Team as a whole
  • Develop and grow the Business Unit Head and Account Executives, including regular individual training and In-field coaching.
  • Manage the recruitment of the individuals in the team
  • Manage the allocation of client portfolios to individual AEs and the Business Unit Head
  • Manage and monitor discounts and pricing to achieve targets set
  • Work with other department managers to assess and resolve work process issues
  • Managing the weekly Direct Team SMT
  • Managing interpersonal relationships with colleagues, clients and superiors in a respectful and professional manner at all times
  • Go on calls with the Direct Team Account Executives
  • Overseeing all proposals that are sent out to clients
  • Be an ambassador for Primedia Broadcasting
  • Manage the Business Club and other seminar sales programs
