IPPs

Bongani Bingwa speaks to Energy Minister Jeff Radebe about the 27 independent power producers agreements for renewable energy.

Minister of Energy Jeff Radebe has signed agreements with 27 independent power producers after delays of more than two years.

Speaking to Bongani Bingwa on the breakfast show, Radebe says the jobs losses being experienced in the coal mines are as a result of the lifespan of those mines coming to an end.

Some of those job losses being experienced in the coal industry are as a result of the end of the lifespan of those mines so those jobs were going to be lost in anyway.

Jeff Radebe, Energy minister

But the good news is, the renewable energy programme that was signed last night is going to be getting our people new jobs, getting black people in the ownership and participation of the IPP of renewable.

Jeff Radebe, Energy minister

Radebe says he believes the injection of R56 billion in the South African economy during this fiscally constrained environment is something to be proud of.

Find out who is investing on the IPPs:
