'Youth unemployment at 54%. Chances become slimmer for jobseeker as time passes'
We have a clear mismatch between the skills required and the skills available… We have a shortage of skilled people and an excess of unskilled people…Karen Ferguson, Knowledge Resources
The HR Think Tank was formed in 2017 by Knowledge Resources and the University of Stellenbosch’s Institute for Futures Research to conduct research aimed at maximising South Africa’s human capital potential.
Unemployment in South Africa is at record high levels and there are fears that digitisation and mechanisation will make it even worse.
Our human capital must respond to the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
While the Jobs Summit symbolised an important step, the outcomes lacked a more wide-spread structural approach to deal with the skills crisis. Many of its agreed-upon initiatives also rely heavily on government intervention in individual projects in multiple industries. What is needed is a broader agreement between business and government that reaches consensus on the foundations of the parties’ respective roles in the growth and jobs project.”Karen Ferguson, Knowledge Resources
