Azania speaks to Founder and Board Member of Molo Mhlaba Athambile Masola and Founder and CEO of Fix Forward Josh Cox.

Molo Mhlaba the first private girls school based in Khayelitsha, is the brainchild of Dr Rethabile Sonibare and Athambile Masola.

What started as an after school programme through their NPO in 2013, has evolved into a primary school focusing on STEM - science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Masola joined Azania Mosaka in studio to share more about the work they are doing to improve the lives and education of young girls.

Masola explains how they are experimenting with African knowledge systems in their curriculum.

We are trying to play around with this idea that is it possible to do those STEM subjects in African languages and what would that look like? We are experimenting a lot and we want our curriculum to be Pan-African centered so our starting point is our continent.

Athambile Masola, Founder and Board Member of Molo Mhlaba

The representation around this school, all our classrooms are named after black women. It is very much centered and rooted in black womanhood and African knowledge systems.

Someone else who is making moves is Founder and CEO of Fix Forward, Josh Cox.

Fix Forward, a non-profit social enterprise is dedicated to connecting homeowners and businesses that want to renovate their spaces.

He shares more about the organisation's 12-month entrepreneurial programme.

We connect them to professional coaches that meet with them monthly, there is mentorship. workshops, e-learning content....

Josh Cox, CEO of Fix Forward

We do a lot of marketing and PR promoting the Fix Forward contractors. People essentially go onto our website, tell us what they need and we match them with the best contractor, we guarantee the workmanship. We also have a high degree of accountability in an industry where that is sorely lacking.
