Eskom: WhatsApp message about Thursday 'blackout' is fake news
Eskom has rubbished a widely spread WhatsApp message purporting that there will be a blackout on Thursday from 6am until 6pm.
Eskom's head of generation, Andrew Etzinger, says similar fake messages have been distributed in the past when demand exceeding power supply back in 2014 and in 2008.
I can confirm that it is fake news.Andrew Etzinger, Head of Generation - Eskom
Of course, load shedding stage 4 is bad enough. We are not downplaying that.Andrew Edzinger, Eskom Head of Generation
Etzinger says the power utility is working hard to ensure that South Africa stays far away from a national blackout.
The country is currently on stage 4 load shedding and he says that Eskom will remain transparent if a higher stage is implemented.
