[LISTEN] Pets at increased risk due to noncompliant pet food sales

The Pet Food Industry Association general manager Dominique Kuhlmann has asked pet owners to be aware.

The Pet Food Industry Association says has urged pet owners to be wary when purchasing pet food - especially when its origin is unknown.

The association has raised alarms over non-compliant pet food sales.

The association's general manager Dominique Kuhlmann explains how brands are bought in bulk, decanted into smaller packages and sold at a cheaper rate.

She says the problem with this is that consumers are being denied of essential information like the best before date.

When you decide to downgrade and buy a cheaper food that you may have found through Facebook r even often on the side of the road, you are not actually assured that the food is within its best before date and you are not sure how long it has been opened or what elements it has been exposed to.

It is important that the pet owner is at least informed so that they can make an informed decision.
