Human resource organisational effectiveness specialist Marie Sebueng talks about mental health conditions in the workplace.

Disclosing your mental health challenges can be a daunting task because of the negative attachment of stigma and discrimination by co-workers.

October has been declared Mental Health Awareness Month with the objective of educating the public about mental health and reducing the stigma and discrimination that people with mental illness often are objected to.

Part of the reason why organisations respond poorly and don't respond at all is because of a lack of awareness.

And it's also because employees are quite reluctant to disclose their condition and understandably so.

Often with mental health conditions, the employees themselves don't fully understand their symptoms and just have the language to express what is going on.
