The Future of Employment, with Joanne Joseph

The Future of Employment, with Joanne Joseph

South Africa has the highest youth unemployment rate in the world and while there is a lot of talk around job creation, the “how” is not always clear. Corporates and the government can’t catalyse all the jobs needed. But SMEs probably can.

702's Joanne Joseph leads a panel discussion focussing on entrepreneurship as a key solve for the unemployment challenge – now and into the future. The conversation will unpack how entrepreneurship could evolve to enable job creation – specifically, in which sectors of the economy the most compelling opportunities exist, and how entrepreneurs of the future can take advantage of these.

Her guests include Vere Shaba, founder and Director of Shaba Africa, founder of Legazy Technology Conferencing Zuko Tisani, co-founder and chief operations officer at Nka’Thuto Education Propeller Thulile Khanyile and Sanlam spokesperson Gugu Mjadu, also spokesperson for the Entrepreneur of the Year Awards.

Cape Talk's Africa Melane conducted a similar panel discussion dealing with South Africa's Education challenges. Click here to find out more.

The conversations were held as part of an intimate series called the iMadiba Project - a global art project that celebrates Nelson Mandela’s legacy through the promotion of meaningful conversation in artistic recreations of his Robben Island cell.

The size of these micro museums brings home the tiny space in which the former statesman lived for so many years – and is a reminder of the oppressive system that was in place, the work we have done in moving forward, and the work that is still ahead of us.

"Sanlam, as one of the sponsors of the iMadiba Project, is helping to facilitate macro conversations in these micro spaces, as we believe that everyone counts. This is what drives us to help South African’s improve their financial well-being, live better lives and secure the future for the next generation."
