Craig Lucas claims no.1 spot on the Kfm Top 40

3 August 2020 12:48 PM

Some artists wait a lifetime for a charting single, others wait a lifetime for a number one - but for talented Capetonian artist, it's more a matter of when, rather than if.

On the 11th of July 2020, a week after release, Craig Lucas' new single, 'Happy', made it onto the Kfm Top 40 with Carl Wastie, breaking a then-record for the highest debuting South African artist, as he entered the award-winning chart at no.13.

This was Craig's 5th solo single and the 5th song of his to chart - putting him in the unique (and record-breaking) position of the only South African artist to have every song he's released chart: from 'I Said This' to 'Smother' (and the 'Smother' duet with Paxton Fielies) to 'Hearts Exposed' and 'Anti-Sociable'.

Four weeks after debuting on the Kfm Top 40, 'Happy' shot to no.1 on the Kfm Top 40, claiming the prime spot on Saturday, 1 August 2020. This is Craig's second no.1 on the SA Radio Awards' Best Weekend Show & Best Music Show - the former time with his hit single, 'Smother (Duet)' with Paxton.

Carl Wastie called Craig up to surprise him with the news under the pretense of finding out more about his Women's Month concert, which took place on Saturday evening, following the interview.

But when you listen to the Kfm Top 40 with Carl Wastie, you get exclusive perks that others simply don't have - and that included the worldwide debut, first-time ever play, of Lee Cole's new single.

29 July 2020 8:52 AM

On Saturday, 25 July 2020 Carl Wastie caught up with Jasmine Thompson – an individual we were first introduced to back in 2015 when she released her rendition of Tracy Chapman’s ‘Fast Car’.

Since then, the young UK starlet has become a friend of the Kfm Top 40 – with this being her 3rd appearance on the award-winning chart show.

The reason for her appearance last week was her new single with DJ / Producer, Zedd, called ‘Funny’ – a song that’s bound to chart soon.

Zedd isn’t the first EDM meganame Jasmine Thompson has worked with, previously collaborating with Robin Schulz and Felix Jaehn – two collabs that have charted on the Kfm 94.5 chart show previously.

During the interview, Carl Wastie pulled out all the stops for Jasmine, giving ger the full Wastie Experience – testing her knowledge of her own music, cracking her up, and of course having a meaningful moment of

Local Stellenbosch producer, Synth Peter, and his mates Katinka, Loufi, What The Faf and Wortel Kombat have set an all-new South African record on the Kfm Top 40 with Carl Wastie, as their viral sensation, ‘Doef Doef’, became the highest debuting South African song ever on the Kfm Top 40 with Carl Wastie.

On Saturday, 25 July 2020 ‘Doef Doef’ debuted on the multiple award-winning chart show at no.11, breaking a record set two weeks previously by Craig Lucas, when ‘Happy’ debuted on the Kfm Top 40 at no.13 on 11 July 2020.
