Public Protector to probe Brian Molefe's R30 million pension pay out

The Public Protector is going to look into the R30 million pension payout that is due to former Eskom chief executive Brian Molefe. Karima Brown says that the public protector has no choice but to do the investigation, as the matter is also going to Parliament.

It appears that Molefe started making inquiries about the R30 million pension two months after arriving at Eskom. He worked at Eskom for a total of 18 months, making the calculation of the payout appear to be fraudulent.

Given the fact that the PP has been so controversial and so lackluster on state capture, the way in which she proceeds and her findings are going to be very interesting.

In other political news, the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (Outa) has laid treason and corruption charges against Minerals Minister Mosebenzi Zwane. According to Brown, many organisations, including the Economic Freedom Fighters and the Democratic Alliance have laid charges against Zwane.

Zwane is being charged under the organised crime act. Brown says that if found guilty, he could go to jail for approximately 25 years.

The key question here is, will the law enforcement agencies do their job? The Hawks are not going to be able to run away from this investigation.
